Service
Network
Science Information NETwork (SINET), the network infrastructure for the Scientific Research Digital Platform, supports scientific research activities in Japan by connecting over 1,000 universities and research institutions throughout the country with high reliability and at ultra-high speed.
Research Data Cloud
NII Research Data Cloud (NII RDC) is a vital information infrastructure designed to support and promote open science, research integrity, and data-driven research. It is built around three core platforms for managing, publishing, and discovering research data.
Authentication Infrastracture
NII helps universities to develop and get the most from their information technology systems by supporting the shift to cloud computing on campus with integrated authentication, eliminating the need to implement complex ID management and login operations, improving security standards by providing digital certificates for their use, and facilitating wireless LAN roaming for academic use.
Cloud
NII provides universities and research institutions with information and consulting services to support the adoption of clouds, as well as tools to support the use of clouds for education and research, and the development of wide-area data collection and analysis programs.
Information Security
To help institutions of higher education improve their information security measures, NII supplies them with collections of sample rules and information security educational materials. It also supports national universities through the operation of NII Security Operation Collaboration Services (NII-SOCS), a set of information security services based on inter-university collaboration.
Scholarly Communication
NII contributes to scholarly communication by developing and improving infrastructure for aggregating and distributing a wide range of scientific information from Japan and abroad. As part of this effort, NII operates NACSIS-CAT/ILL, a service for organizing information from academic library collections to facilitate document copying and other uses, and KAKEN, a service for providing information on Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research.
Collaboration
NII pursues a wide range of activities collaboratively with universities and research institutions. Through various collaborative initiatives with university libraries, information technology centers, and other partners, NII strives to continually strengthen Japan's scientific information infrastructure.
